Gregory A. Turner
- was born March 9, 1959, in St. Louis, Missouri, to
Ronald and Carol Turner, and was baptized on May 14,
1967 in the RLDS Blue Valley Stake, a sixth
generation member of the Restored Gospel. Gregory
graduated from Truman High School (Independence) in
1977 and from Graceland College with a B.S. in
Chemistry in 1981. He received his Ph.D. in Organic
Chemistry from the University of Iowa in 1987,
followed by post-doctoral work in Pharmaceutical
Chemistry at the University of Kansas in 1987-1988.
Gregory married Marcianna K. Lewis, whom he met in
Iowa City, in 1984. They have two children, Joshua
Ryan (‘90), and Stephanie Rachelle (‘92). After
residing in Broken Arrow, OK for two years, they
gathered back to Independence in 1990, where he has
been employed at Midwest Research Institute.
Currently he holds the title of Principal Chemist in
the Life Sciences Division, functioning as Principal
Investigator and Technical Project Group Leader for
various drug development programs.
He was
ordained a Deacon in 1977, a Priest in 1982, an
Elder in 1991, and a High Priest and member of the
Standing High Council in 2001. He has served at the
local level as treasurer, Presiding Elder’s
Counselor, and as Presiding Elder. As a result of
personal study and under the witness and promptings
of the Holy Spirit, he signed the “Proclamation and
Invitation to the Faithful” in May 1999. He and his
wife Marci are active supporters in the Remnant
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. On
April 4, 2004 he was ordained and set apart as
Counselor to the Presiding Bishop.
On April 7, 2006 he was
ordained a Bishop.
