Revelation given through Joseph Smith, Jr., the prophet, in response to the earnest prayers of Joseph Knight, Sr. On several occasions Mr. Knight brought provisions to Joseph and Oliver so they could continue their work of translation without interruption. This revelation was given in May 1829, at Harmony, Pennsylvania. Note the similarity between the opening affirmations and commandments of this revelation and those given to Oliver Cowdery (D. and C. 6), Hyrum Smith (D. and C. 10), and David Whitmer (D. and C. 12).
[Sec 11:1a] A great and marvelous work is about to come forth among the children of men.
[Sec 11:1b] Behold, I am God, and give heed to my word, which is quick and powerful, sharper than a two-edged sword, to the dividing asunder of both joints and marrow;
[Sec 11:1c] therefore, give heed unto my word.
[Sec 11:2a] Behold, the field is white already to harvest; therefore, whoso desireth to reap, let him thrust in his sickle with his might, and reap while the day lasts, that he may treasure up for his soul everlasting salvation in the kingdom of God;
[Sec 11:2b] yea, whosoever will thrust in his sickle and reap, the same is called of God;
[Sec 11:2c] therefore, if you will ask of me you shall receive, if you will knock it shall be opened unto you.
[Sec 11:3a] Now, as you have asked, behold, I say unto you,
[Sec 11:3b] Keep my commandments, and seek to bring forth and establish the cause of Zion.
[Sec 11:4a] Behold, I speak unto you, and also to all those who have desires to bring forth and establish this work;
[Sec 11:4b] and no one can assist in this work, except he shall be humble and full of love, having faith, hope, and charity, being temperate in all things whatsoever shall be intrusted to his care.
[Sec 11:5a] Behold, I am the light and the life of the world, that speak these words;
[Sec 11:5b] therefore, give heed with your might, and then you are called. Amen.
