At death, and before the first resurrection, the spirit goes back to God for temporary judgment to be assigned to one of two places for a time. Those who have overcome the evil forces will be in the midst of the paradise of God and rest from all their labors. This is also called Abraham's bosom. It is a place where Jesus will be, for He told the thief on the cross "Today thou shalt be with me in paradise". Luke 23:43 This place will be a place of blessedness for those that die in the Lord. Rev 14:13 The inhabitants of Paradise and of Hell are two distinct types of people. Those who are seeking to obey the will of God and those who are still in rebellion.
(Rev 2:7 KJV) He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.
(Rev 14:13 KJV) And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them.
(Mark 10:14 KJV) But when Jesus saw it, he was much displeased, and said unto them, Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.
(Luke 16:22 KJV) And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried;
(Luke 23:43 KJV) And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.
(John 13:36 KJV) Simon Peter said unto him, Lord, whither goest thou? Jesus answered him, Whither I go, thou canst not follow me now; but thou shalt follow me afterwards.
